Covering an area of 7400 km², the beautiful South Tyrol is home to around 40 campsites offering a wide variety of options, from luxurious wellness resorts to simple pitches close to nature. South Tyrol is a true paradise for camping enthusiasts who want to experience nature in its purest form. Embedded in the impressive backdrop of the Dolomites and characterized by charming valleys, the region attracts outdoor enthusiasts year after year. The combination of Alpine mountains, Mediterranean flair and a wealth of leisure activities makes South Tyrol an incomparable destination for campers. So everyone can find the most beautiful campsite to spend their vacation.

The Dolomites: Majestic rocky world
The Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, characterize the heart of South Tyrol. With their rugged peaks, vast alpine meadows and steep rock faces, they offer an impressive backdrop for hikers, climbers and nature lovers. Highlights such as the Three Peaks and the Catinaccio invite you to explore. Particularly fascinating is the alpenglow at sunset, which bathes the rocks in fiery red – an unforgettable sight for everyone.

Idyllic valleys: peace and variety
From the vineyards in the Adige Valley to the apple orchards of the Venosta Valley and the original villages in Val Badia, the valleys of South Tyrol offer a varied landscape. The region impresses with crystal-clear mountain lakes, thundering waterfalls and green alpine meadows that delight both those seeking relaxation and adventurers.

Leisure activities for campers

Hiking and climbing
South Tyrol has a well-developed network of hiking trails, ranging from family-friendly tours to challenging via ferratas. Campers can set off directly from the pitch to explore the beauty of the surrounding area on foot. The Dolomites also offer numerous climbing routes and via ferratas for adrenaline junkies.

Cycling and mountain biking
Whether you are a leisure cyclist or a mountain biker – South Tyrol has something for everyone. The network of cycle paths stretches across gentle hilly landscapes and challenging trails in the mountains. The Venosta Valley cycle path, which meanders along the Adige river, is particularly popular with families.

Winter sports and snow fun
In the winter months, South Tyrol turns into a paradise for skiers, snowboarders and snowshoe hikers. Campsites near the ski areas such as the Alpe di Siusi or in Sesto offer ideal conditions for winter campers.

Culture and cuisine
In addition to nature experiences, South Tyrol also has a lot to offer in terms of culture and cuisine. Campers can explore medieval castles, charming villages and traditional markets. In culinary terms, the region spoils you with a unique blend of Tyrolean cuisine and Italian influences – from speck and dumplings to pizza and gelato.

A camping destination with limitless possibilities

South Tyrol combines scenic diversity with a wide range of leisure activities and warm hospitality. Whether nature experiences, sporting challenges or simply relaxation – the region has the right experience for every camper. Thanks to the large number of campsites and pitches, which are often located in the middle of nature, nothing stands in the way of an unforgettable vacation.

My favorite place in South Tyrol? Directly under the Three Peaks at the Rifugio Auronzo. Ok, cheap is something else and it is “ONLY” a parking lot. The road there is a private toll road and costs around 50 for a camper for 24 hours. Included in the price? Nothing. Oh yes: a breathtaking mountain landscape! It’s best to get up very early in the morning and take a hike around the Three Peaks before the first coaches arrive.

Please note that wild camping is not permitted anywhere in Italy.
